GlobeQUEST, the corporate voice and data arm of Innove Communications joined with Ayala Center to bring Wi-Fi or Wireless Fidelity to Ayala Malls.
Through its Wireless Internet Zone (WiZ) service, GlobeQUEST has placed strategic Wi-Fi hotspots in Glorietta, Greenbelt, and Alabang Town Center. The concept allows Wi-Fi users to access their office email, chat, watch videos, play games, or even make a call using Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP) through their Wi-Fi capable laptop, PDAs (Personal Digital Assistants) or cellular phones while in the mall.
Jesus C. Romero, GlobeQUEST head believes that shopping malls are the next frontier for the increasingly mobile work force or for people who simply want Internet access on the go.
"We are already see a number of people in cafes and restaurants using them as meeting places. What we want to do is to extend Wi-Fi access everywhere in the mall. We also hope that the new customers will be drawn in by the ability to check email and surf the Web," he said.
Aside from leading malls, most major hotels and airports in the country have already installed Wi-Fi access.
GlobeQUEST WiZ uses a wireless technology similar to a cell phone where roaming and being connected converge.
Wi-Fi access cards are available at the National Sports Grill and the Mosaic Lounge at GB1; Segafredo and BIZU at GB2; The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, Figaro, and Seattle's Best Coffee at GB3; Gloria Jeans, Figaro, and Seattle's Best Coffee at G3; Bo's Coffee Club and Starbucks at G4; BIZU at ATC; and soon at M Cafe at the Ayala Musueum.
